Conservation Update Annual Newsletter

Brown SWCD’s newsletter is published on an annual basis (in January) as an insert in The Scoop newspaper and is distributed to Brown County households.  Our newsletter is a publication meant to inform all Brown County land owners and residents of district happenings and conservation news.    Copies of newsletters dating back to 1971 are available at the District office.

Farm Show / Farmfest

Brown SWCD participates in the Farm-City Hub Club Farm Show in New Ulm on an annual basis in an effort to educate the general public on soil and water resources and programs.  Over the past few years the district has displayed information and provided handouts on several conservation programs such as, the Buffer Program, Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Program, RIM/CREP Easements Program and Cost-Share Program.  Brown SWCD also assists with staffing the Area V & Area VI Soil & Water Conservation Districts’ booth at Farmfest each August.

Poster Contest for 5th & 6th Grade Students

Each year Brown SWCD is one of many SWCD’s across the state to sponsor a conservation related poster contest.  The contest is open to any fifth and sixth grade students living in or attending school in Brown County.  The district distributes an education packet with information pertinent to a theme relating to conserving natural resources to the fifth and sixth grade teachers in the County with an invitation to have students submit poster entries.    Home schooled students are also encouraged to participate!  If you are a teacher or have a fifth or sixth grade child and are interested in our poster contest please contact the district office for information about participating.

Soil and Water Stewardship Week

Brown SWCD is a member of the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) which oversees the Stewardship Week program.  Stewardship Week is one of the largest national annual programs to promote conservation.  NACD represents the nation’s 3,000 conservation districts, which were established to encourage resource conservation across the country.

One way the Brown SWCD observes Soil and Water Stewardship Week is by mailing out stewardship information to Brown County Churches.

For more information check out the Soil Stewardship page on NACD’s website.

Brown SWCD Conservation Tours

Brown SWCD hosts conservation tours for local legislatures, partnering agencies, and landowners to showcase the work that the district has completed and how state dollars have been spent in the county.
